Solar Panel Price India
Solar panel price in India 2026: 1 kW, 2 kW, 3 kW and 5 kW rooftop system cost, panel vs full system price, GST and your cost after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy.
Solar Panel Price in India
A solar panel alone is not the full cost. The price below is the maximum turnkey price for a complete on-grid rooftop system: modules, inverter, structure, wiring, protection and installation, with GST included.
How to read this: you pay the installer the gross price. PM Surya Ghar subsidy is credited later to your bank account after commissioning. The “effective cost” column is gross minus central subsidy only. State top-up, if your DISCOM still offers it, is extra and is not deducted here.

Solar System Price in India
At a maximum of ₹70,000 per kW, all taxes included, these are the ceiling prices for a standard on-grid home system. Battery and hybrid backup are not included.
| System | Maximum price (incl. GST) | Central subsidy | Effective cost after subsidy | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹70,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹40,000 | Small home, low daytime load |
| 2 kW | ₹1,40,000 | ₹60,000 | ₹80,000 | 2 BHK, fans, lights, one AC used carefully |
| 3 kW | ₹2,10,000 | ₹78,000 | ₹1,32,000 | Most 3–4 BHK homes. Full central subsidy cap |
| 5 kW | ₹3,50,000 | ₹78,000 (capped) | ₹2,72,000 | Large home, multiple ACs. Subsidy does not rise after 3 kW |
| 10 kW | ₹7,00,000 | ₹78,000 (capped) | ₹6,22,000 | Large house or small commercial load |
Per kW stays ₹70,000 at every size in this maximum table. In the market, larger systems are often cheaper per kW. Publishing the ceiling avoids a quote that looks cheaper than the final bill.
1 kW, 2 kW, 3 kW and 5 kW
1 kW solar system — ₹70,000
Maximum price ₹70,000 including GST. Central subsidy ₹30,000. Effective cost ₹40,000. About 100–120 units a month in West Bengal, enough for a small flat with limited daytime use. Roof space is roughly 60–80 sq ft.
2 kW solar system — ₹1,40,000
Maximum price ₹1,40,000 including GST (₹70,000 × 2). Central subsidy ₹60,000. Effective cost ₹80,000. A practical size when the monthly bill is around ₹1,000–₹1,800 and the roof is clear.
3 kW solar system — ₹2,10,000
Maximum price ₹2,10,000 including GST. This is the size that unlocks the full central subsidy of ₹78,000, so the effective cost is ₹1,32,000. For most Kolkata and Hooghly homes this is the useful comparison point, not a 1 kW sample.
5 kW solar system — ₹3,50,000
Maximum price ₹3,50,000 including GST. Central subsidy stays ₹78,000, so the effective cost is ₹2,72,000. The extra 2 kW is paid in full. Choose 5 kW only when the bill and daytime load need it. A bigger system is not automatically a better subsidy deal.
Solar Panel Price vs Complete System Price
Do not compare a module-only rate with this table. In 2026 a solar panel by itself is commonly in the range of about ₹20,000–₹30,000 per kW of module capacity, before inverter, structure, cable and labour. ₹70,000 per kW is the maximum price of the full installed on-grid system, taxes included.
Included in ₹70,000 per kW
- ALMM-listed modules suitable for subsidy (DCR where the scheme requires it)
- On-grid inverter with generation monitoring
- Standard mounting structure for a normal roof
- DC and AC cable, DCDB, ACDB, surge protection and earthing
- Installation and commissioning
- GST
Not included
- Battery or hybrid backup
- Very high elevated structure or heavy civil work
- DISCOM net-meter deposit and application fee
- Extra cable if the inverter is far from the roof
- Three-phase upgrade, if your connection needs it
PM Surya Ghar Subsidy
For an eligible residential consumer with a grid connection, the central subsidy under PM Surya Ghar is fixed:
- 1 kW — ₹30,000
- 2 kW — ₹60,000
- 3 kW and above — ₹78,000, and it does not increase for 5 kW or 10 kW
The customer usually pays the system cost first. After commissioning and bank-detail submission on the national portal, the subsidy is transferred to the customer’s account. A commercial connection, a non-DCR module where DCR is mandatory, or a second subsidy on the same connection can make the plant ineligible. Check the current rule on the national portal before you pay.
Solar Panel Price in Kolkata, Hooghly and Serampore
The maximum rate on this page is the same ₹70,000 per kW for Kolkata, Hooghly and Serampore. What changes locally is not a different “city price list”. It is roof type, shadow, building height, cable length, and whether the connection is CESC or WBSEDCL. A tin shed in Serampore and a high RCC roof in Kolkata should not be forced into one casual number without a site check, but both stay inside this ceiling for a standard on-grid scope.
Net metering is what turns daytime generation into a lower bill. Without the DISCOM’s bi-directional meter, an on-grid plant cannot export. Budget the DISCOM fee separately from the ₹70,000.
What Makes the Final Price Lower Than ₹70,000
₹70,000 per kW is the maximum, not a promise that every roof costs that much. A simple low-rise roof, a shorter cable run, and a standard structure often come in lower. The price moves up toward this ceiling when the module brand is premium, the structure is taller, or the electrical work is longer. Ask for one turnkey quotation that lists modules, inverter, structure and GST. Do not accept a panel-only rate as the project price.
Solar Panel Price: Frequently Asked Questions
For a complete on-grid rooftop system, the maximum price used here is ₹70,000 per kW, all taxes included. A 3 kW system is ₹2,10,000 before subsidy. The panel module alone is much cheaper and is not the installed price.
**Summary:** What is the price of a 3 kW solar system?Maximum ₹2,10,000 including GST. Central subsidy ₹78,000. Effective cost ₹1,32,000 after that subsidy is credited. Battery is not included.
**Summary:** What is the price of a 5 kW solar system?Maximum ₹3,50,000 including GST. Central subsidy stays capped at ₹78,000, so the effective cost is ₹2,72,000.
**Summary:** Is ₹70,000 per kW the panel price or the system price? It is the maximum system price, taxes included: modules, inverter, structure, protection, wiring and installation. It is not the price of a bare solar panel.
**Summary:** Can I get solar subsidy in India?Eligible residential consumers can get ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more under PM Surya Ghar. The subsidy is paid to your bank after commissioning. It is not automatically a discount on the installer invoice.
**Summary:** Is rooftop solar available in Kolkata, Hooghly and Serampore?Yes. The same maximum of ₹70,000 per kW applies. Kolkata is generally CESC and Hooghly–Serampore is generally WBSEDCL. The plant still needs a suitable roof and net-meter approval.

Check Your Own Size
Use the bill, not a neighbour’s system size. A 3 kW plant is the subsidy sweet spot only if the roof and the load match it.
Prices are SolarConnect maximum indicative on-grid rates for October 2026, GST included, at ₹70,000 per kW. They are not an MNRE benchmark and not a panel-only MRP. Subsidy figures follow the central PM Surya Ghar slabs (₹30,000 / ₹60,000 / ₹78,000). Confirm eligibility on the national portal before you rely on the effective-cost column. West Bengal state assistance, if any, is not included.
