Is winter a good time to install rooftop solar?
Yes. Winter is comfortable for rooftop work in most of India, and installing before summer means you are ready for the months of highest generation and highest electricity bills. Under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible homes with DCR panels can get Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and…

Do solar panels work on foggy days?
Yes, but output is lower because fog blocks part of the sunlight. Generation usually improves once the fog lifts later in the day.

Do solar panels work better in cold weather?
Panels convert light more efficiently when they are cool, so a clear, cold day can be very productive. Fewer daylight hours in winter can still mean fewer total units than in summer.
Source: Does Rooftop Solar Work in Winter in India? Fog, Smog, Output and 7 Tips (2026) – SolarConnect India
Should I buy a battery for winter?
Not just for winter. A battery is useful if you face regular power cuts or want backup at night. For most homes, an on-grid system with net metering is enough.
Source: Does Rooftop Solar Work in Winter in India? Fog, Smog, Output and 7 Tips (2026) – SolarConnect India
Do solar panels work in winter fog?
Yes, but output is lower on foggy or heavily clouded days. Yearly generation is what matters, and sunny months balance the low days.

Why is one solar quotation much cheaper than another?
Usually because of differences in panel type (DCR or non-DCR), inverter brand, structure quality, cabling, warranty or included services such as net metering and maintenance. Compare item by item.
Source: How to Compare Rooftop Solar Quotations in India 2026: 12-Point Checklist Before You Pay – SolarConnect India
Should the subsidy be deducted from the quotation?
Under PM Surya Ghar, the subsidy is paid to the consumer's bank account after the system is installed and inspected, so the quote should show the full price and the expected subsidy separately.

Is the cheapest solar quotation a bad choice?
Not always. It is fine if the components, warranties and services match the other quotes. It is risky when the lower price comes from unnamed parts or missing services.
