PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana with SolarConnect
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is the Government of India’s rooftop solar scheme for homes. Here is exactly how SolarConnect fits in: our own team installs, and the scheme’s registered-vendor role is held by our partner, Pro Power Energies.
Important: SolarConnect is not a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor. Scheme projects are handled with our registered vendor partner Pro Power Energies; SolarConnect’s own installation team does the installation.
What PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is
Launched in February 2024 and run by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the scheme aims to bring rooftop solar to one crore households. Residential electricity consumers apply on the national portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in, and receive central financial assistance (CFA) for a rooftop solar system installed by a vendor registered on that portal.
MNRE’s earlier grid-connected Rooftop Solar Programme (Phase II) for homes has been merged into this scheme. CFA amounts, eligibility and bank-loan options are published on the official portal and can change, so we do not repeat figures here.
How an application moves on the national portal
Summarised from the portal’s consumer manual. Always follow the current steps shown on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
- Register. Choose your state, district and electricity distribution company (DISCOM), enter your consumer number and verify your mobile number with an OTP.
- Apply for rooftop solar. Your consumer details are fetched from the DISCOM; enter the proposed capacity and upload your electricity bill.
- Select a registered vendor. Pick a vendor registered for your DISCOM and upload the vendor agreement. For SolarConnect customers this is our partner Pro Power Energies.
- Installation. The system is installed and the installation details are submitted on the portal. SolarConnect’s own team carries out the installation.
- DISCOM inspection and net metering. The DISCOM inspects the system, the net meter is installed and the project is commissioned.
- Bank details and subsidy. Submit your bank details on the portal and redeem the subsidy. The CFA is credited to your bank account (or first to the loan account if you took a scheme-linked loan).
