Vijaya Dashami 2026: A New Beginning with Rooftop Solar for Homes and Businesses Across India
This Bijoya Dashami, start a new beginning with rooftop solar. PM Surya Ghar subsidy up to Rs 78,000 for homes, and RESCO/PPA, tax benefits and net metering for commercial and industrial solar across India.
Vijaya Dashami, celebrated as Bijoya Dashami in Bengal and as Dussehra across India, marks the victory of good over evil and is widely seen as an auspicious day for new beginnings. Families exchange Bijoya greetings, businesses open new account books and many people choose this day to start something important. This Bijoya, our SolarConnect India team invites homes and businesses across India to make one practical new beginning: switching to clean, low-cost rooftop solar power.
Quick answer
Rooftop solar lets a home or business generate its own electricity from sunlight and cut its monthly bill. Homes can use the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana central subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and Rs 18,000 for the 3rd kW, up to Rs 78,000 for 3 kW and above. Commercial and industrial (C&I) users do not get this subsidy, but can save through lower daytime bills, accelerated depreciation and zero-investment RESCO/PPA models. SolarConnect India supplies partner-brand solar panels and delivers projects pan-India through its EPC and dealer network.
Victory over high electricity bills: rooftop solar for homes
For a family, the "victory" this festive season can be a lower electricity bill every month. As a rough planning figure, 1 kW of well-installed, shadow-free rooftop solar in India produces about 4 to 5 units a day on average, depending on location, season and maintenance. With net metering, extra units exported on sunny days are adjusted against units you import later, as per your DISCOM's rules.
- Subsidy: Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, Rs 18,000 for the 3rd kW, maximum Rs 78,000 for 3 kW and above, under PM Surya Ghar (subject to scheme rules). Some states add a top-up.
- How to apply: on the official portal pmsuryaghar.gov.in with a registered vendor. SolarConnect India applies customers' subsidy through our empanelled partner, Pro Power Energies.
- Payment: the subsidy is paid to the consumer's bank account after installation and inspection, so a fair quotation shows the full price and the expected subsidy separately.

A new beginning for business: commercial and industrial rooftop solar
Many Indian businesses start new account books around the festive season. It is also a good time to review the biggest controllable overhead in most factories, warehouses, schools, hospitals and offices: electricity. Commercial and industrial tariffs are usually higher than residential ones, and most business load runs in daytime, exactly when solar produces.
- CAPEX model: the business owns the plant, keeps all savings and can claim accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under the Income Tax rules (ask your chartered accountant what applies to you).
- RESCO / PPA model: a developer installs and owns the plant on your roof, and you pay only for the solar units you use at an agreed per-unit rate, usually lower than your grid tariff, with little or no upfront payment.
- GST: GST on solar power systems and modules was reduced to 5% in September 2025.
- Open access: under the Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022, consumers with contracted demand of 100 kW or more can source green power from plants outside their premises, subject to state rules and charges.
SolarConnect India handles commercial and industrial rooftop and ground-mount projects from 5 kW to 0.5 MW and above: design, supply of partner-brand panels, installation, net metering support and O&M. See our commercial solar projects page and read 8 commercial rooftop solar myths vs facts.
